Outline of Exhibit
This one-time-only exhibition features two artists who use the whole exhibition space as a canvas.
Artists have been the front-runners not only in the pop-art but also in the other categories such as music, photographs, manga, multimedia, architecture, graphic art, and literature.
This merry and enjoyable exhibition is focusing on the "encounters" of art works, expressions, space, and human beings.
We achieved the dual goals of creating something of new "worth" and additional chances for the "expression" through a various kind of "encounters."
In the exhibition, one artist encounters the others, the artists encounter the exhibition space, and the art works encounter "U."

CHOI JEONG HWA "OK!"

We proudly present an art exhibition of the brilliant South Korean
artist Choi Jeong Hwa at the Towada Art Center. The exhibition, entitled
'OK!', coincides with the first anniversary of the opening of the Art Center,
a pivotal part of the 'Arts Towada' initiative.
Choi is one of the most dynamic and well-known Korean contemporary artists
and his 'Flower Horse' has become the iconic symbol of the Art Center.
With a philosophy of 'art for everyone', Choi consistently sends a message
that art & culture embrace everyone who embraces art & culture,
not just an elite few. At this exhibition, he 'recycles' everyday goods,
such as rice bowls and plastic gadgets into art pieces. For many, this
may invoke the essential questions of 'what is art?' and 'why is this art?'.
Choi is both an artist, and a designer of buildings, furniture and furnishings,
his work has been presented at numerous biennials including Liverpool (2004),
Venice (2005), and Singapore (2006), as well as at Asia House, London (2006)
and Wolverhampton (2007).
As a part of the exhibition, art pieces will be installed in various locations
around the city including high-street shops and public places, turning
Towada into a gigantic gallery. 'OK!' is the artist's first solo show in
Japan.
